Accommodations: La Closerie les Capucines - https://www.closerielescapucines.com/en
The journey begins in Geneva and makes its way into the rarely visited but immensely delightful French Jura. On the way to our home for the first two evenings, Neal Rosenthal’s La Closerie les Capucines in Arbois, we will stop at Fort des Rousses, an immense former fortress converted to an aging facility for the local Comté cheese. Here is the first profound insight into the culture of this mountainous region of the Jura.
A light and welcoming lunch at La Closerie precedes a walking tour of the historic village with perhaps a visit to the Pasteur House as Arbois was home to the famous scientist. A fondue dinner at Les Arcades continues the appreciation of the vital role that cheese plays in this region.
The morning offers the opportunity to hike the hills of the Jura in the company of our local guide who has a deep knowledge of the local flora and fauna. The autumn colors should be at their finest.
Lunch at La Closerie will be in the company of several producers who form the backbone of the Rosenthal Wine Merchant portfolio of growers in the Jura. A visit to Matheny, one of RWM’s most respected wineries will follow. An evening at Maison Jeunet, the Michelin two-star restaurant in Arbois just steps away from La Closerie concludes a fanastic day.
Accommodations: La Cour Berbisey, Dijon - https://www.lacourberbisey.fr/en/
We then set off the next day for the Cote d’Or. The morning and afternoon will feature visits to several cellars of renowned growers in the Cote de Nuits who populate the exceptional selection of Burgundian estates in the Rosenthal Wine Merchant lineup.
Lunch at La Cabotte in Nuits St. Georges will break the hard work of the morning and afternoon wine tasting and vineyard and cellar tours. The evening will be spent in Dijon, the historic center of Burgundy where lodging will be at La Cour Berbisey.
Day four includes an immersion in the charms of the Cote de Beaune with tastings at one or more cellars between Ladoix and Chassagne. The afternoon features a guided visit to the formidable Abbaye de Cluny. We then set up home at Auberge du Paradis, a true paradise in the Beaujolais district, with its romantic rooms and one-star Michelin table.

Dinner at the Auberge du Paradis is a wonder but the breakfast is even more exceptional. That will set us up for a guided trek up the pre-historic site of Roche du Solutré before we meet the Cheveau family of Pouilly for a tasting and vineyard tour.
A tasty lunch at Courtille de Solutré will provide welcome reinforcement of energy before tackling another source for fine white Burgundy at the Clos des Rocs, the Domaine of Olivier Giroux. Dinner at Auberge du Paradis will satisfy for sure.
Accommodations: Villa Maia - https://www.villa-maia.com/en
After breakfast we will make a stop to visit the family and winery of Pascal Granger in Julienas. Then begins the descent to the distinguished city of Lyon. In this urban jewel, the delights of the renowned “cuisine Lyonnaise” will be on display as will be the many cultural gems of this sophisticated city. A theatre or musical performance that Friday evening, either at the Opera House or one of the performing arts theatres, will be part of the program.
We will begin the day with a guided tour of one of the multitude of food markets in Lyon. The afternoon offers a wide spectrum of choices, for example a visit to the Musée des Beaux Arts or one of the other cultural touchpoints of Lyon, or a walking tour of this ancient Roman ville.
A final dinner, in splendid surroundings at one of the fine tables in Lyon, in the company perhaps of several of the Rosenthal Wine Merchant “vignerons” of the northern Rhone Valley, will be an appropriate finish to our time together before the departure from Lyon.
Departure from Lyon.
